Waste Management: Market Analysis and Investment Partner Finding

Waste Management: Market Analysis and Investment Partner Finding

Our client was a city and university spin off company, a startup actually. The company aimed to commercialize a waste-to-composite technology for building composite materials from wastes and products from those. The technology addressed specifically the current mega trends for sustainability and eco-friendly products – it allows to turn the landfill type wastes, that cannot be traded, into commodity products.

The Client announced a tender to select a supplier of market research and partner finding services in Poland.

Waste Management Market Analysis
Market.Open won the deal and we started cooperation. The aim of the Client was to understand what the market in Poland is like for the company’s products, what are the raw material streams, their availability, possible costs and who could be a potential partner. The ultimate aim was to propose and appoint a potential co-investment partner and to prepare a business case for the Client.

The specific scope of our work included:
– identification of potential partners – raw material suppliers
– identification of specific waste management suppliers
– waste management market analysis to understand how the system works, what are material handling expenses, such as reception fees for waste fractions, prices, taxes for landfills, etc.
– identification of manufacturers, distributors and buyers of products that the Client can manufacture
– contacting the agreed potential partners to attract them towards the clients proposal and open cooperation discussions

Meetings with Stakeholders and Results
The methodology included a desk research and interviews. We completed 30 interviews with market stakeholders, inculding 27 phone interviews and 3 face-to-face meetings.

In result a detailed report including the above scope was delivered to the Client.

All from the contacted large stakeholders were open to dicuss cooperation, including 2 companies interested in a joint investment. The interested companies were coordinated by Market.Open towards meetings with our Client in order to open negotiations. We supported the Client in the initial negotiations and the project was continued with mutual visits and discussions directly between the interested parties.
